Eight elderly people who were injured when their van rolled in Northland have been discharged from hospital tonight.
An elderly woman in her 70s died when the vehicle rolled down a hill north of Dargaville about 4.20pm.
There were 10 people in the van, including the driver, who was uninjured.
None of the other injuries were serious, but police said they were taken to be checked at Dargaville Medical Centre.
They were all on an excursion from Auckland.
It was not known if the group was from a resthome.
One lane of State Highway 14 where the crash happened was to be reopened this evening.
Police say the van was travelling towards Dargaville when it failed to take a right-hand bend.
Officers from the serious crash unit are speaking to witnesses and mapping the scene.
Police are notifying relatives of those involved in the crash.
Northern fire communications shift manager Colin Underdown said when emergency services arrived seven people were trapped in the van.
The injured people were taken for treatment by ambulance and helicopter.
